Your most commonly asked questions

From booking and the BVI in general to weddings and wellness activities, we’ve listed a few frequently asked questions with answers below. If you cannot find the answer you need, please contact our resident concierge, who will be more than happy to help you.

How do I get to the BVI?

There are two popular routes that can be taken to get to the BVI. The most direct way is to fly to Terrance B. Lettesome International Airport on Tortola. This usually requires a changeover in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Our airport code is EIS.

The other way is to fly into St Thomas, US Virgin Islands and take either the ferry service or water taxi service to Tortola.

How do I get to St. Bernard's Hill House?

It is recommended that whichever port you are entering through, you rent a vehicle (or two depending on the size of your group). The resident concierge will meet you at your port of arrival and escort you to the villa while you follow. It’s about a 45-minute drive from the airport, and less than 10 minutes from the West End Ferry Dock/Soper’s Hole.

What do we need to pack?

The BVI is a very laid-back way of life. You really don’t need to bring a lot with you! Swimsuits, hats, rash guards, camera, toiletries, and a few outfits to circulate throughout your week is all you really need. Robes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairdryers and towels are all provided.

Is it cold during the winter months?

Not really! Lows are about 70F at night, and highs are about 85F during the day. It is recommended to bring a pair of jeans and a light cardigan for the evenings. The pool at SBHH is heated for the winter months.

What side of the road do you drive on in the BVI?

We drive on the left side of the road, and the steering wheel is also on the left.

Do I need a passport to travel to the BVI?

Yes, you do, and it needs to be within 6 months of expiration.

Can I drink the tap water?

At St. Bernard’s Hill House, we have a UV filtration system in place which allows you to drink the water from the fridge tap only. Drinking water from the faucets is not recommended; however, the tap water is safe for brushing your teeth and boiling for tea or cooking. To be eco-friendly, we have reusable water bottles on site that you can refill and take with you on your day trips.

Can I have provisioning sent to the villa before my arrival?

Absolutely! There are many great services on island to make your arrival as easy as possible. Speak to the resident concierge about arranging this prior to your arrival.

Can I travel between the islands when I am there?

Yes. It is really quite easy to travel around the BVI.  There are regular ferries between islands and many companies operate day sails and charters. Our resident concierge will be happy to arrange a day trip, overnight excursion or whatever your schedule can accommodate, paying attention to every detail to make certain you have a memorable experience.

Are the islands safe?

Yes, very safe.  Many people don’t lock their cars or their homes here in the BVI. For caution, however, we have safes in each of the bedrooms and we suggest you secure your valuables and travel documents during your stay.

I have food allergies and need specialist products (e.g., gluten and lactose free), can I find what I need on island, or should I bring my own?

We have a range of specialist and health stores here which have a wide range of products. We will help source whatever you need and if you opt for a private chef, they too can accommodate all your dietary needs.

I will need to work whilst there and join virtual meetings, how is the Wi-Fi connection?

Wi-Fi is available across the property and there is strong and steady connectivity.

What happens if I get sick whilst there, can I see a doctor?

There is a modern and well-equipped hospital that will see anyone that needs immediate assistance.  We also have several private clinics with general practitioners and specialists who can help.

Can I rent the Palm Villa separately?

Because we offer a curated, exclusive, luxury experience, guests must rent St Bernard’s Hill House in its entirety for their stay. Villas are not rented separately

How many people can St Bernard's Hill House sleep?

St Bernard’s Hill House can comfortably sleep a maximum of 10 guests. Most rooms have King beds. Both the Palm and Orchid Villas have King beds that can become Twin XL beds.
